YL4H visit Ghana Embassy in Ethiopia

Hope For Future Generation is implementing a Youth Leaders for Health Programme with RESULTS UK, WACI Health, Health Promotion Tanzania-HDT and CISMAT- SL with support from Comic Relief and in partnership with Malaria No More UK.

As part of the project 25,  youth leaders from Ghana, Tanzania and Sierra Leone who are passionate about health and healthcare systems were in Ethiopia for an advocacy training in Ethiopia in the last week of January 2020.

The Ghanaian contingent of the Youth Leaders for Health programme paid a courtesy call on Ghana’s Ambassador to Ethiopia, Her Excellency Mrs. Amma A. Twum-Amoah.

The purpose of the visit was to introduce themselves as newly trained advocates for a malaria-free Ghana and a better health system. Through a communique, the eleven Ghanaian Youth Leaders for Health appealed to Mrs. Twum-Amoah to use her high office to encourage the government of Ghana to increase domestic funds for the malaria response by 20% as per the National Malaria Control Plan for 2016-2020.

Her Excellency responded by acknowledging the fact that malaria was a preventable disease and that it is highly unacceptable for people to lose their lives to it. She charged the advocates to champion the fight against malaria and to go to the villages and hamlets of Ghana where there is little education on malaria. She also assured advocates of her unwavering support in the fight against malaria.

Finally, she assured the advocates of relaying the message to the president of Ghana when he attends the African Union summit.
