The health of every child remains a priority to parents and the nation. In the past years, several measures have been put in place to ensure that every child under five years is immunized against the childhood killer diseases. Considering the fact that children are born every day, there is a need for constant interventions to ensure that all children in communities, especially in hard-to-reach areas get immunized.

Low child immunization coverage still remains a public health issue in Ghana. Hence, the Ghana Coalition of NGOs in Health with a one-year financial support from Pfizer, a pharmaceutical company in the United States of America, is implementing the Pfizer Immunization Support (PIS) Project in 60 communities in six districts in the Volta Region. The project aims at increasing immunization coverage in hard-to-reach and low immunization coverage communities by 90% by 2020 in the selected districts.

As an implementing partner, Hope for Future Generations (HFFG) has been working closely with key stakeholders, including Ghana Health Service, opinion leaders, and volunteers in target communities to ensure that all children are immunized against the 13 childhood killer diseases.

Our sensitization programmes are geared towards ensuring that community members are conversant with immunization issues to enable them to make informed decisions in the best interest of their children.

Among the strategies we deploy are community durbars, house-to-house awareness programmes, Child Welfare Clinic visits, and monitoring visits to create awareness on immunization and also to immunize children.

HFFG has since the inception of 2018 been working in 5 hard-to-reach and low immunization coverage communities in the Kpando municipality and North Dayi district of the six districts to:

1. Increase demand and access to comprehensive and quality immunization in the project communities by 90% by 2020.
2. Strengthen community participation in addressing barriers that inhibit access to childhood immunization services delivery to promote and increase demand for immunization at the community level through collaboration among community stakeholders.
3. Promote the generation of an evidence base through the introduction of the use of community childhood immunization registers to improve data quality.
4. To assess immunization coverage impact to advocate for communities involvement and support.
5. Impact assessment, documentation, and dissemination of learning outcomes for quality service delivery in the future
